Sesshu Garden ZEN Retreat
- Journey to the Silence -
常栄寺 雪舟庭
The Spirit of the Journey
When was the last time you experienced "Mu" (nothingness)?
In today’s world, we are swept away by a relentless torrent of information.
What we need is not to add, but to subtract.
In the garden built by the master painter Sesshu of the Muromachi period, let the strike of the master's "Keisaku" (zen staff) clear the dust from your mind.
This is the ultimate "Sanctuary" reserved for modern executives to regain their inner center.
The Essence of the Place
Experiences to Discover
A Serene Walk through the Sesshu Garden
Stroll through the historic grounds and view the garden from three distinct perspectives. We offer a moment of profound tranquility to quietly absorb the "Zen" spirit that Sesshu imbued into this landscape.
A One-of-a-Kind Zen Training Experience
Experience authentic Zazen meditation led by the head priest in the Zendo (meditation hall), which is normally closed to the public. This is a rare opportunity to step away from daily bustle and face your inner self.
Japanese Cultural Workshops
Immerse yourself in Japanese aesthetics through hands-on workshops and "Samu" (mindful work) sessions, where you will learn the Zen spirit of "Ichi-go Ichi-e" (a once-in-a-lifetime encounter).
Exquisite Kaiseki Dining at Saiko-tei
A fusion of historical elegance and culinary excellence. Enjoy a special Kaiseki meal featuring seasonal ingredients from Yamaguchi at Saiko-tei, a historic restaurant where Emperor Meiji once stayed. A dining experience that satisfies all five senses.
Bookings for this year are now closed.
The full program launches in 2026!
